Experience

I have over 35 years experience in assisting people to make the changes they want in their lives. I have worked  as senior counsellor in a range of public health positions and also as a university lecturer…teaching and training undergraduate students and other health professions. My private practice experience has also being extensive - I  have worked with individuals, couples and groups, conducted workshops and seminars in the government and private sector and more recently facilited a number of retreats and workshops in Northern Thailand. My roles in the public sector have included senior positions in alcohol and other drug rehabiltation, telephone counselling and problem gambling agencies. More recently I have worked in the fields of palliative care, bereavement counselling and assiting people work with changes associated with ageing and chronic disease. Whilst living in Byron Shire I served as the Coordinator of the Byron Bay Mental Health Practitioners Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Practice group. I also  assisted Dr. Rob McNeilly in organizing workshops in Byron and in training health professionals in Ericksonian and Solution oriented approaches to change Values Knowing what we value and love give us direction in life and make our lives relevant and worth living.  I value kindness, connection, freedom and happiness. As an Acceptance Commitment Therapy oriented practitioner these values are the foundation the way I work with people. From direct experience in Mindfulness I value the capacity to know who we essentially are. This essential and fundamental self  exists beyond any thoughts and sensations and feelings we may experience. My experience of this, is one of shared humanity. We all deal with our mind’s propensity to create suffering if we unskillfully allow it to. Mindfulness rests in a tradion of thousands of years of practice yet, its truth and usefulness is available now in whatever circumstances we may find ourselves.  I value  love and friendship, family and  the humanity I share with all ( and love the experience of travel which deepens this understanding).
